Stem cells; ultrasound; Donate
These updates come to you via a bulletin from "New Life Resource Center" in La Crosse WI.
Stem Cells found in Human Fat
Ordinary human fat contains stem cells that can be quickly turned into induced pluripotent stem cells (IPS) and at a quicker pace than stem cells found in skin. The IPS cells have similar properties as embryonic stem cells but do not raise the same ethical concerns because they come from skin--and now fat cells. Researchers at Stanford School of Medicine discovered that fat-derived cells removed during liposuction can develop into other types of tissue more quickly than their skin cell counter-parts. Handheld Ultrasound: Future of the pro-life movement
New technology hailed as a stunning leap forward in modern health care may soon give pro-life advocates unheard of power to save life in the womb--in the palm of their hand. General Electric has unveiled the ultra portable and user-friendly Vscan. This ultrasound machine is about the size of a large flip phone. For pro-lifers on the front lines, the new gadget could hugely improve abortion-bound women's access to ultrasounds. These machines have been highly effective in helping mothers choose life for their baby. LifeSiteNews.com

House Democrats ALMOST have enough votes.
http://actions.nchla.org/Core.aspx?AID=970&APP=GAC&IssueID=19513&SiteID=-1
Full article found here http://www.lifenews.com/nat5591.html
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- House Democrats said today that they have almost enough votes to get a pro-abortion health care bill through the chamber. The votes they say they have collected include almost enough for the government option, which would expand abortion funding even further.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked her top lieutenants this week to conduct a vote count to determine where members of the party stand on HR 3200, which pro-life groups oppose.
Three House committee have approved different versions of the bill, all of which include massive abortion funding and mandates, that Pelosi and top Democrats will meld into one measure.
Congressional Progressive Caucus Chairman Raul Grijalva, an Arizona Democrat, said today that House Democrats have secured about 210 votes for a bill with the controversial public option.
That's just eight votes short of the 218 needed to approve the pro-abortion bill.
Grijalva told the pro-abortion Huffington Post web site that 25 of the chamber's 256 Democrats say they will refuse to vote for the bill if the public option is included and that 18 or 19 Democrats will vote against the bill no matter how the measure is combined.
Another top Democrat also indicated the votes are close.
“We're right around 218 for a robust public option,” Democratic Caucus Chairman John B. Larson of Connecticut said early Wednesday afternoon “It could go higher. I feel pretty good.”
"We are very close and I count tough," Pelosi told Democrats on Tuesday during a meeting, according to a Politico report.
She told colleagues that she has 200 certain votes and wanted to "see if we can find the remaining votes," to pass a bill with the public option.
Should the House approve a pro-abortion health care bill with a public option, that would put it in conflict with the Senate, where lawmakers say they don't expect a public option bill to pass.
The process may wind up with a House version that includes the public option and a Senate version that does not -- which sets up a contentious conference committee meeting where top House and Senate negotiators have to work out the differences in a way where both chambers can sign off on the compromise bill.
Meanwhile, Rep. Bart Stupak, the top pro-life Democrat in the House is still hoping to hold together a coalition of pro-life and moderate Democrats who plan to vote against the bill if they do not get a chance to vote on Stupak's amendment to ensure abortion funding is removed from the legislation. The bills already allow abortion funding but the government option would exacerbate the situation.
When it comes to the public option, HR 3200 in the House would kick it off with $2 billion in start-up funds from the Treasury and, as amended, the bill "explicitly authorizes the Obama Administration to fund abortion for any reason under the public plan, from day one," says Douglas Johnson of National Right to Life.
"So, once the Secretary of HHS has ordered that all abortions be covered under the 'public option,' what would that mean? It would mean that you would not be allowed to enroll in the new government plan unless you were willing to pay an additional premium to cover the cost of elective abortions -- in effect, an abortion surcharge," he explains.

Congress: Remove abortion services from mandatory coverage!
There’s a new and very troubling legislative development underway on Capitol Hill. Congress is pushing for national health care coverage — including mandatory coverage for abortions. Abortion would be considered a “health benefit” in both government and private insurance plans. This is outrageous! The American Center for Law and Justice is mobilizing and demanding that Congress insert a critical exemption — REMOVE abortion services from mandatory coverage. Stand with the ACLJ to keep abortion services out of national health care legislation. Please read the form below carefully and declare your membership with the ACLJ by adding your name to our Petition to Stop an Abortion Mandate.

New Documentary seeks to expose abortion business
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYaTywSDmls&feature=player_embedded
Blood Money" still does not yet have a distributor, but Kyle is hopeful that through the support of pro-life advocates the film will gain the attention of one. In order for this to happen, though, he says that people need to register at the website or watch the preview on youtube to show their support.
"We know 250,000 to 300,000 people come to D.C. every January for the pro-life march, and it should be pretty easy to get those kinds of numbers looking at the website or the youtube video. If we can generate those kinds of numbers we think it will help us tremendously to get a distributor."
To support the documentary "Blood Money," please either watch the youtube trailer here.

Wondering what happened to FOCA?? Read this!
In the intense controversy over health care reform, the mainstream media have kept the focus on economic disputes and mostly ignored pro-life concerns about the issue of tax-funded abortion coverage. This has only deepened the resolve of pro-lifers to develop their own alternative means of communication (options for pro-lifers in the Diocese of La Crosse will be given at the end of this article).
On Thursday, July 23, approximately 70 pro-life organizations hosted a live webcast to mobilize Americans to protest the health care reform package proposed by President Barack Obama. The webcast was viewed by 36,000 people. Brief presentations were given by nineteen pro-life experts. In case you missed it, you can listen to the webcast here. http://www.wrtl.org/audio/
E. Christian Brugger, of the Culture of Life Foundation, said that the main problem with the health care package is not what it says, but what it doesn’t say.
"Abortion is presently not mentioned in the bill. The bill does not specify what will and will not be covered," he noted. Brugger explained that the bill mandates that a "health care advisory committee" will have the authority to define the "essential benefits of coverage"—in other words, what will be covered by taxpayer funds.
The problem is that this committee will not be elected, but will be appointed by the Obama administration. And the person most likely to lead the appointment process is Obama’s secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, the former governor of Kansas who was notorious for vetoing any pro-life legislation that arrived on her desk.
"Obama and Sebelius will be certain to appoint an advisory committee that supports abortion coverage in universal health care," said Brugger. "Therefore, federally funded abortion will almost certainly become a mandated form of 'essential health care' if the bill passes in its present form. Every taxpayer will be forced to fund abortions. Presently enacted restrictions on abortion at the state level will be overridden. Hospitals and providers will be coerced into cooperating with abortions. FOCA [the Freedom of Choice Act] won't need to be passed because its cornerstones will be included in our nationalized health care."
The solid consensus among pro-life leaders is that the only way abortion will not wind up being covered through health care reform is if the legislation is worded to explicitly exclude it from coverage. This is what we must insist on as we contact our legislators.
The webcast organizers suggested several avenues for opposing the bill. They first of all recommended prayer, along with spreading the word through email and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
They also encouraged listeners to contact legislators by email or mail, and to phone their Washington offices.
In the Diocese of La Crosse, the Office of Ministries and Social Concerns has worked with pastors to establish a large network of Parish Pro-Life Coordinators (I'm one) who receive and distribute pertinent emails and action alerts to their own sub-networks of parishioners and others(if your reading this your one). There is a secondary diocesan pro-life network as well, composed of anyone interested in receiving alerts. If you would like to be included in that network, please email cruff@dioceseoflacrosse.com. Also be sure to visit the home page of the diocesan website (http://www.dioceseoflacrosse.com/) and click on “Pro-Life Resources, Alerts and Action Steps.”

Support Healthcare Reform that Respects Life, today!!!
Call To Action
Dear Friends,
Congress is working on three main health care reform bills—one in the House, two in the Senate. It is critical that Congress hears the message to support a health care reform bill that respects life. Any bill must exclude mandated coverage for abortion and uphold longstanding laws that restrict abortion funding and protect conscience rights. The House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate Finance Committee continue to mark up bills. House and Senate floor votes could occur before the August recess.

More GREAT news!!
Some days the bombardment from the “Culture of Death” can seem overwhelming. But I want you to know about a significant success we have seen which is probably attributable to your efforts….
Congressman David Obey represents the 7th District in Wisconsin (encompassing a significant chunk of our Diocese and the Diocese of Superior). He is also the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, which, as you know, was deciding whether to keep existing prohibitions against using tax money to fund abortion and stem cell research. We got the word out through many of you in the 7th District to email, write and call him on behalf of life. Guess what? In a move that surprised many, those bans on tax money for abortion and stem cell research remained in the appropriations bill! We thought that was going to be extremely doubtful at best, but it shows that our voices DO make a difference.
Of course there are many other “successes”, too, but many of them happen in people’s minds and hearts and sometimes only God sees them. But those are the successes that will ultimately win the day for the Culture of Life, no matter how dark the clouds might seem some days in Washington and Madison.
For those of you in Iowa, sorry there is so much WI stuff here, but I'm not in the Iowa loop, since I live in WI. If you wanted more info in your area try going to the Iowa Right to Life Web-page or see if there are any organizations in your church.

Good new in WI
The number of abortions performed in Wisconsin continues to decline.
A state report released Tuesday found 8,229 abortions were performed in the state last year, down from 8,267 in 2007. The number of abortions has fallen for five straight years now.
Girls younger than 18 had 500 abortions, down from 551 last year. Parents gave their consent in 452 abortions last year.
About two-thirds of abortions were performed on unmarried women.
State law requires the Department of Health Services to produce an annual report on abortion rates.

URGENT ACTION ALERT, Oppose HR 2410
On Tuesday's post I asked you to call. Now there is a very simple link you can e-mail your congressmen regarding this very important matter. Please waste no time & contact them today.
Ask Your Representative to Oppose HR 2410
Section 334 establishes a new “Office for Global Women’s Issues” headed by an ambassador-at-large in the Office of the Secretary of State. This legislation directs that this office coordinate and support efforts regarding “women’s empowerment” around the world.
On April 22, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified before the Foreign Affairs Committee that this administration “will protect the rights of women, including their rights to reproductive health care” including access to abortion.
Congressman Chris Smith offered an amendment to prevent this new office from promoting abortion around the world, but that amendment is not being allowed to come up for a vote.
Please contact your Representative today and ask that they vote against HR 2410.
Just follow this link https://secure3.convio.net/aulact/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=278 to contact your Member of Congress.
Thank you for standing with us on this critical life issue.

For those in WI...Please read the whole thing before you decide
OPPOSE CONTRACEPTION MANDATES IN THE STATE BUDGET
Help defend Catholic institutions and religious liberty!
Tell your legislators you oppose new contraceptive mandates in the state budget.
BACKGROUND
The current state biennial budget bill, Assembly Bill 75, was recently amended to include a provision that would mandate that pharmacies, including Catholic pharmacies, have a duty to dispense prescribed contraceptive drugs or devices to a patient without delay.
The state budget bill now also includes a provision that would require many entities, including Catholic institutions, to offer contraceptive coverage as part of their employee health insurance policy. This provision would require health plans purchased by Catholic dioceses and agencies to provide coverage for prescribed contraceptives, and the outpatient services necessary to administer those items.
ACTION REQUESTED
Write or call your legislators now!
Make the following points about these two provisions:
Oppose the Mandate for Health Insurance Policies to Cover Contraceptive Services
- As drafted, the budget would compel Catholic institutions to purchase health care plans that would help pay for contraceptives, including those contraceptives that have an abortifacient effect. This is in direct opposition to the religious identity and values of Catholic institutions.
-As Catholics, we do not believe people of faith should have to choose between their beliefs and their desire to be generous employers.
- Most health care plans in that state already cover contraceptives. This provision unfairly targets those religious and other charitable organizations that provide services to their community based on a mission of faith.
Oppose the Pharmacy "Duty to Dispense" Requirement for Contraceptives
- Catholic pharmacies do not dispense prescriptions for the purpose of birth control.
- At the same time, Catholic providers do stock and dispense hormonal contraceptives because this medication is prescribed for non-contraceptive reasons to manage other medical conditions.
- In Wisconsin, a nurse can also dispense contraception in a clinical setting. Therefore, those who wish to gain access to contraceptives need not rely upon religious providers for access to those medications.
State statute should not compel religious institutions to engage in activities contrary to their faith. These provisions will have little effect on the average person's ability to access contraception in Wisconsin. However, these provisions pose a significant threat to religious liberty and will have the effect of forcing some citizens to act contrary to their religious beliefs.

Call today! Urge a "NO VOTE" on H.R. 2410 bill

Dear pro-life friends,
This is an urgent congressional alert from National Right to Life (NRLC) in Washington, D.C.
On Wednesday, June 10, or Thursday, June 11, the U.S. House of Representatives is expected to take up H.R. 2410, a bill that would create a new "Office for Global Women's Issues" in the State Department. In congressional testimony on April 22, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a strong pro-abortion advocate, left no doubt that this new sub-agency would be involved in seeking to legalize abortion on demand in foreign countries. Clinton said that the Obama Administration is "entitled to advocate [legal abortion] . . . anywhere in the world," and that the Adminstration believes "reproductive health includes access to abortion."
Please take a few minutes to urge your representative to oppose this bill. We make it easy for you -- just go to the NRLC website's "Legislative Action Center," here http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/callalert/index.tt?alertid=13498196&type=CO. Then, enter your zip code into the "Call Now" box. You will then be shown the name and phone number of your representative in the U.S. House, along with suggestions on what you should say when you call the representative's staff in Washington to oppose the bill.
We also provide an easy-to-use form that allows you to send us a quick e-mail report on how your conversation went.
For more information on H.R. 2410, read the letter sent by NRLC to members of the U.S. House of Representatives, here http://www.nrlc.org/ObamaAbortionAgenda/StateDepartmentHouseFloor.html .

last chance to write to NIH about new government guidelines for embryonic stem cell research
The Obama administration is proposing new guidelines for embryonic-destructive stem cell research. President Obama will be using our tax dollars to pay for medical experimentation on tiny human beings. As we have done in the past, we must make our voices heard! Not only is this kind of research reprehensible, it is unnecessary(see my post from 4-20)! To make your voice heard, go to this web site:

planned parenthood & founder history
In doing research on this subject I was flooded with articles & web-sites about Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood. There is so much out there about her that I had a hard time narrowing it down. I've included a number of quotes & sites below that you can click on for more info. Or do your own google search.
1.
Margaret Sanger was a radical supporter of the eugenic movement. She advocated for a superior race that was free of the poor, immigrants, & minority citizens. She even spoke at a Ku Klux Klan rally. Among many other quotes from Margaret Sanger herself that can be found on this web-site http://www.dianedew.com/sanger.htm are these that stuck out to me.
"The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it." Margaret Sanger, Women and the New Race (Eugenics Publ. Co., 1920, 1923)
On blacks, immigrants and indigents:
"...human weeds,' 'reckless breeders,' 'spawning... human beings who never should have been born." Margaret Sanger, Pivot of Civilization, referring to immigrants and poor people
On sterilization & racial purification:
Sanger believed that, for the purpose of racial "purification," couples should be rewarded who chose sterilization. Birth Control in America, The Career of Margaret Sanger, by David Kennedy, p. 117, quoting a 1923 Sanger speech.
2.
Margaret Sanger aligned herself with the eugenicists whose ideology prevailed in the early 20th century. Eugenicists strongly espoused racial supremacy and “purity,” particularly of the “Aryan” race. Eugenicists hoped to purify the bloodlines and improve the race by encouraging the “fit” to reproduce and the “unfit” to restrict their reproduction. They sought to contain the “inferior” races through segregation, sterilization, birth control and abortion.

4.
"Now, I have to tell you that it was a great privilege when I was told that I would receive this award. I admire Margaret Sanger enormously, her courage, her tenacity, her vision. … I am really in awe of her. …. Yet we know that Margaret Sanger's work here in the United States and certainly across our globe is not done."
http://www.nrlc.org/news_and_views/April09/nv042309.html
Very scary words coming from our countries Secretary of State. What does she mean by the words "Margaret Sanger's work here is not done.".......
5.
You must understand the basic underlying philosophies that drive Planned Parenthood's work. These are contained in Humanist Manifesto II. Although many at Planned Parenthood will deny that they spread this doctrine, a number of the leaders of the organization are either signers of the document or have received awards for spreading its philosophies. Among these leaders are:
Margaret Sanger (founder of PP) - Humanist of the Year 1957
Albert Ellis (member PP leadership committee) - Humanist of the Year 1971
Alan Guttmacher (president of PP) - Signer of Humanist Manifesto II 1973
Mary Calderone (medical director of PP) - Humanist of the Year 1974
Betty Friedan (member PP leadership committee) - Humanist of the Year 1975
Isaac Asimov (member PP leadership committee) - Humanist of the Year 1984
Faye Wattleton (president of PP) - Humanist of the Year 1986
Lloyd Morain (member Board of Directors of PPFA) - Humanist of the Year 1994

Take action before May 26th!
May 15, 2009 For Immediate Release
The Little People on Death Row
By Tom Grenchik
Americans have until May 26 to intervene in the death sentences of countless members of our human family. Unless we speak up, some of our youngest sisters and brothers may now be destroyed because their parts are valued more than their very lives.Stem cells are biological building blocks that can be manipulated to replace many other types of cells, in the hope of repairing the human body and curing disease.
Stem cells can be taken from adult tissues and from newborn babies’ umbilical cord blood without any harm to the donor, and without any moral dilemma. These are loosely called “adult stem cells.” But stem cells can also be immorally harvested from a human embryo, destroying the un-consenting “donor.” These are called “embryonic stem cells.”
Adult stem cells have been used to regenerate areas of damaged organs, restore eyesight, repair heart damage and treat rare blood disorders. Embryonic stem cell treatments, on the other hand, have chiefly resulted in growing tumors and killing laboratory rats.
Following President Obama’s March 9 executive order, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has proposed new guidelines for federally funded embryonic stem cell research. The guidelines would – for the first time – use taxpayer funds to encourage the killing of embryonic human beings for their stem cells. This is morally wrong. Even if an embryo may be at risk of being abandoned by his or her parents in a fertility clinic, that does not give researchers or the government a right to kill that human being – much less a right to make the rest of us subsidize that destructive agenda. These guidelines mark a new chapter in divorcing biomedical research from its necessary ethical foundation, respect for human life at all stages.
Some in Congress and the Administration want an even broader policy. They want to obtain stem cells by destroying human embryos specially generated for research through in vitro fertilization (IVF) or cloning procedures, a “create to kill” policy. While the president’s executive order gave the NIH the leeway to push to that extreme, so far these initial guidelines have not done so.
Patients suffering from devastating illnesses deserve our compassion and our committed response, but not at the cost of innocent life. The Church supports ethical stem cell research and treatments that do no harm and respect the inherent dignity of persons, such as the morally acceptable medical advances that are already benefiting patients with dozens of conditions in clinical trials. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has launched a new “Oppose Destructive Stem Cell Research” campaign, equipping citizens to contact Congress and the National Institutes of Health to oppose embryonic stem cell research and support ethical and effective cures and treatments.
The campaign homepage, www.usccb.org/stemcellcampaign, explains why the proposed NIH guidelines are unacceptable, provides links to USCCB resources, and helps web users to “Contact Congress & NIH Now” by e-mail.
But time is running short for our embryonic sisters and brothers. If we don’t speak up, after May 26 their fate lies in the hands of researchers and ideologues who may see them merely sources of body parts, as commodities for our use. Please go to www.usccb.org/stemcellcampaign right now.

Shrine Pilgrimage Reminder
May 17 Shrine Pilgrimage and Mass of Reparation for Offenses against Human LifeThe faithful of the Diocese are invited to come in pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse for a Mass of Reparation for Offenses against Human Life on Sunday, May 17 at 1:00 PM.
It is fitting that, as political trends show the culture of death infecting much of the world, we make reparation through the Mass and invoke the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Unborn. This pilgrimage and Mass comes on the same day that President Obama will appear at the University of Notre Dame to receive an honorary degree in law and to speak at their commencement, something that has prompted objection from Bishop Listecki and many other Bishops, as well as countless faithful, because of President Obama’s repeated pro-abortion executive actions and appointments.
Groups of ten or more that plan to make the pilgrimage are asked to email the Office of Ministries and Social Concerns at hhanson@dioceseoflacrosse.com with a count of how many are coming.
You are also invited to a free Organ Recital by Dr. Brian Luckner, Director of Sacred Music for the Shrine

Beautiful Pro-life advertisement
This is a beautiful ad done by CatholicVote.org (just click on the play button on their web-page). It is the second video they've developed in their "imagine campaign". The first one was set to air during the Superbowl, but NBC & CNN rejected it. This second ad is has been preliminarily approved to air on Fox during the season finale of American Idol. Let’s pray that this beautiful, positive message reaches hearts that need to hear it most.
If your curious here is the 1st one that NBC rejected... it's pretty powerful!

40 Days for Life..teleconfrence tonight
The results of a brand-new study reveal that support for legalized abortion in America has plummeted by 8 points since last August:
http://www.citizenlink.org/content/A000009947.cfm
That kind of drop is unheard of and has many 40 Days for Life leaders and volunteers wondering how much of that was due to your faithful prayers and efforts.
Here's the bottom line: now is the time to take our pro-life efforts up to the next level!
With that in mind, it's not too late to sign up for Tuesday night's "THE NEXT LEVEL" teleconference where we will be revealing in detail for the very first time the brand-new initiatives that will be launched this summer -- and beyond -- to expand the impact of this movement.
We've secured 1,000 phone lines for this event, and as of this moment, there are still a limited number of spaces available.
If you want to participate, get the details and register now at:
http://www.40daysforlife.com/thenextlevel
If you can't get a phone line due to the number of participants, don't worry. We're also setting up a streaming web audio simulcast on Tuesday night so you can listen live via the web.
This is going to be the most important conference call that 40 Days for Life has ever held -- and I sure hope you can be with us on that call!
Things keep getting more exciting by the day!
Yours for Life,
David Bereit
National Director
40 Days for Life
P.S.- If you can't make it on Tuesday night due to a schedule conflict, go ahead and register anyway. We'll record every word and let you know when the audio and written transcript are available for you.
Think what you could do in your community or even just your heart by learning more about in this event!

Send message to NIH & Prayer campaign
The Obama Administration has continued to issue policies that promote a Culture of Death. At the present time concern is focused on draft guidelines promoting destructive embryonic stem cell research. On March 9, President Obama issued an Executive Order overturning the limits President Bush had placed on government funding of this destructive research. On April 23, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) published draft guidelines implementing the Obama directive. The public has until May 26 to submit comments.
Also Members of Congress have said they intend to move forward with legislation that goes beyond the NIH guidelines.
We are inviting you to send, first, a message to your Representative and two Senators in Congress and, second, comments to the NIH. The NCHLA Grassroots Action Center will facilitate you doing this. First, in the usual way you will be able to send a message to Congress and then you will automatically be directed to a page where you can choose to send comments to NIH. In both the message to Congress and the comments to NIH, we have placed a pro-life text in the e-mail form, to which you can add your own remarks.
Please act today! To send your messages now & to read the full Action Alert first, click the link below. Thanks!

resources for crisis pregnancy
That term crisis pregnancy almost seems like an ozymorone to me personaly.. but I don't have to try very hard to understand and put myself in other women's shoes for a moment.. imagine if I found out my baby had a developmental problem that would require lots of expensive medical intervention for the rest of our lives.. or if I was a single, yonger woman who felt like I had little to no support.. I can see how an unplanned pregnancy would most definitly be a crisis.
There are MANY good resources out there for women who need help at this very scary & important time in their lives. I have tried to list a few. If you know of more let me know & I will add them to the list. Keep this in your "back pocket" incase you are ever in a posistion to offer help to a women looking for advice or resources.
Crisis Pregnancy Centers are the heart of the ProLife community; they help needy mothers and offer alternatives to abortion. But keep in mind that not all crisis pregnancy center value the dignity of life, so ask or do some reasearch before recomending anyplace.

Governor Palin acts out her Pro-Life stance.
By Tom Strode - Apr 28, 2008
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has put her pro-life beliefs into personal practice.
Palin, 44, gave birth to her fifth child April 18 in an act that is counter-cultural — her baby boy, Trig Paxson Van Palin, has Down syndrome. The prevalence of prenatal genetic testing and the reportedly hopeless portrait painted by many obstetricians have helped abortion become the default option in recent years for parents whose unborn children are diagnosed with the condition. It has been estimated as much as 90 percent of unborn babies detected with Down syndrome in the United States are aborted.
Palin and her husband, Todd, introduced Trig to reporters and photographers when she returned to work April 21. She acknowledged she was sad when testing early in her pregnancy showed her baby had Down syndrome.
“When we first heard, it was kind of confusing,” Palin told reporters, according to the Anchorage (Alaska) Daily News, adding the news was “very, very challenging.”
Todd and she moved beyond that, the governor said, adding they believe God has blessed and chosen them. She said Trig is “absolutely perfect” to them.
“It just feels like he fits perfectly,” she said. “He is supposed to be here with us.”
Palin emailed a letter to family members and close friends on the same day she gave birth, writing it as if it came from God and signing it: “Trig’s Creator, Your Heavenly Father.”
“Many people will express sympathy, but you don’t want or need that, because Trig will be a joy,” the letter said, according to the Daily News. “You have to trust me on this.
“Children are the most precious and promising ingredient in this mixed-up world you live in down there on Earth. Trig is no different, except he has one extra chromosome.”
Down syndrome normally results when a person has three copies, rather than two, of chromosome 21.
A pro-life advocate and a Republican, Palin was elected in 2006 as Alaska’s first female governor, as well as its youngest. She is breast feeding Trig and plans to take him to work with her, the Daily News reported.
“Her choice to value life in a very personal way speaks volumes and gives those of us in the pro-life community in Alaska cause to believe that we truly do have a pro-life leader in charge of our state,” Eagle Forum Alaska President Debbie Joslin told LifeNews.com. “When so many in our culture have chosen to devalue the lives of those who face special learning disabilities, Governor Palin shines as a great positive role model.”

Three links worth clicking on
The first is a powerful pro-life keynote given by Bishop Robert Finn of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. His words are frank, sobering and inspiring at the same time.http://catholickey.blogspot.com/2009/04/we-are-at-war-bishop-finns-gospel-of.html
The second is a beautiful pro-life ballad that goes straight to the heart. The power of music can sometimes touch hearts where arguments fail. Share it!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VROBmaeBdNE&feature=related
The third is a petition from the American Center for Law and Justice demanding that the Director of Homeland Security retract her statement that pro-lifers are prone to be dangerous right-wing extremists.http://www.aclj.org/Petition/?ac=1&zip=*Zip&sc=3430

tell senators...vote NO on Kathleen Sebelius
Final Push: Have Your Voice Heard!
The fight to defeat the nomination of Kathleen Sebelius as the Secretary of Human Services is coming down to its final hours. We have received word from the Senate that they will be debating and voting on her nomination tomorrow, Tuesday April 28th.
Governor Sebelius has shown an unwillingness to back down from her extreme pro-abortion agenda. Just this past Thursday, Governor Sebelius vetoed “The 2009 Late-Term and Partial-Birth Abortion Regulation Act” in Kansas that would have put important restrictions on the abortion industry.
Once again Kathleen Sebelius has sided with her abortion clinic friends like George Tiller rather than act to protect women and children from the particularly horrific practices of partial birth and late term abortions.
Write your Senators today and once again urge them to vote NO on Kathleen Sebelius.
As governor, Sebelius has repeatedly vetoed other common-sense restrictions on the abortion industry like the Comprehensive Abortion Reform Act, which would have implemented restrictions on late-term abortion procedures. She has opposed or vetoed several abortion-accountability bills, including legislation that would have required medically-supported clinic regulation. She has also vetoed legislation requiring explicit medical reasons for post-viability, late-term abortions.
It is bad enough that Kathleen Sebelius has pushed her abortion agenda on Kansas. We cannot allow Sebelius’ radical pro-abortion agenda to be implemented for the whole country.
This fight is now more crucial than ever as opposition to Sebelius grows.
Write your Senators today and once again urge them to vote NO on Kathleen Sebelius.
There is still time to make your voice heard!

Write to NIH today about stem cell research.. Obama propsing new guidelines
The Obama administration is proposing new guidelines for embryonic-destructive stem cell research. President Obama will be using our tax dollars to pay for medical experimentation on tiny human beings. As we have done in the past, we must make our voices heard! Not only is this kind of research reprehensible, it is unnecessary! To make your voice heard, go to this web site:
http://nihoerextra.nih.gov/stem_cells/add.htm before May 26th!
If you prefer snail mail with a good, old-fashioned handwritten letter, you can mail your comments to: NIH Stem Cell Guidelines, MSC 7997, 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, Maryland, 20892-7997. Please stand against this destruction of human life!!

updated! For those living in WI act NOW!
Tomorrow our Wisconsin State Senators will vote
Two of those nominees, Roger Axtell and Mike Weiden, previously voted to approve the late-term abortion clinic which will be housed at the Madison Surgery Center. These two individuals are responsible, along with others, for the impending horror that will take place within the walls of the Madison Surgery Center. For that reason, we consider them unfit to serve on the Board.
Fully formed babies of between 19 and 22 weeks will be dismembered at the Madison Surgery Center. And what is to stop them from performing even later abortions in the future ... after all, abortion is legal for the full nine months of pregnancy!

Dr. Oz on Oprah - stemcell debate
This actually happened a few weeks ago, but I never saw it on TV or the news. Dr. Oz a well respected doctor was on Oprah's talk show with Micheal J. Fox (a well known proponent of stem cell research). He announced that the stem cell debate is dead. More specifically that embryo stem cell is not the answer but that adult stem cell is. You can view the segment on YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDFJOzu9SyM
He explains how embryo stem cells have not yet decided what they will be, so when we have used them they end up turning into tumors. Adult stem cells already know what cell they will be & we can "re-program" them back to be helpful... well he explains it better than me.. check it out
